BOARDING LIFE

Westwood College offers exceptional boarding facilities for both boys and girls, ensuring a comfortable and structured living environment that promotes academic success and personal growth.

Spacious and Prestigious Rooms:
Each boarding room accommodates 2 to 4 learners, ensuring students are not overcrowded. Every student is provided with:

  • A single bed for personal comfort
  • Built-in cupboards and drawers for organized storage of personal belongings

Supervision and Safety:
The hostels are well-supervised:

  • Girls’ hostels are managed by matrons
  • Boys’ hostels are overseen by boarding masters
    Strict rules are enforced, including no entry into opposite-sex hostels. Alarmed locks are also in place to prevent any movement after lights-out, enhancing security.

Cleanliness and Responsibility:
Students are encouraged to clean their own rooms, teaching them responsibility and discipline. Janitors step in for touch-ups to ensure that the living spaces remain spotless and comfortable.

Conducive Study Environment:
The spacious arrangement reduces conflicts and fosters a peaceful atmosphere, which is particularly helpful for study sessions, especially during exam preparations.

Meal Plan at Westwood College

Westwood College offers a balanced and nutritious meal plan to ensure students remain healthy and energized throughout their day.

The weekly schedule includes three main meals and additional snacks, covering a variety of dishes that cater to student preferences.

Daily Schedule:

06:00 AM – Breakfast

  • Porridge (Cereal) or Cerevita
  • Cornflakes (on select days)

09:30 AM – Tea Break

A variety of light snacks such as:

  • Bread with margarine, jam, or eggs
  • French toast, baked beans, burgers, or boiled eggs
  • Tea or a refreshing drink

1:00 PM – Lunch

Hearty and nutritious meals include:

  • Sadza with chicken stew or roast beef
  • Spaghetti with beef stew and vegetables
  • Rice with beans, mince, or sausages
  • Fresh fruit or salads to accompany the meals

5:30 PM – Supper

Evening meals consist of:

  • Rice or Sadza with beef stew, chicken, or mince
  • Vegetables and additional sides like green salad
  • Juices or fruit to round off the meal

8:00 PM – After Study Snacks

Snacks are provided to keep students satisfied during late study sessions, including:

  • Tea with sandwiches (egg, polony, or egg mayo)
  • Scones, samosas, muffins, or popcorn

To ensure that boarding students are provided with a balanced and healthy diet, Westwood College has created a tuck list that outlines the foods and snacks that are permitted in the boarding house.

This list takes into account the nutritional needs of growing adolescents, as well as cultural and dietary preferences. Parents are requested to adhere to this list when sending food to their children.

Pocket Money Policy

  • Purpose: To provide a safe and structured framework for managing boarding students’ pocket money, promoting financial responsibility, and preventing exploitation.
  • Eligibility: All boarding students are eligible to receive weekly pocket money of US$10, which will be deposited into their school accounts
  • Withdrawal: Students can withdraw money from their accounts at designated times, monitored by the school.
  • Responsibility: Students are responsible for managing their accounts and ensuring they have sufficient funds for their needs. The school will regularly review accounts to prevent financial exploitation.
  • Consequences for Misuse: Students who misuse their pocket money will receive a verbal warning and guidance on responsible financial management for the first offence.
  • For a second offence, they will receive a written warning and temporary suspension of pocket money.
  • If they commit a third offence, their pocket money will be permanently suspended, and disciplinary action will be taken.
